Chapter 1 Rough Draft
Open on far shot of Lei’s tower. Lightning, rain, generally menacing weather looms in the sky. A zoom-up into the near-top reveals a dimly lit room with open books, drawings, and various magical-looking devices scattered over tables and stacked into corners. A large pentagram surrounded by eclipses of runes glows sharply on the floor. Lei, somewhat shadowed, raises his hands over the magic circle and recites an incantation:

Lei: (in runic) Summoned forth from darkness, servant of the beast. I pledge my soul that you may appear before me.

The atmosphere in the room becomes violent, a dark mass swirls into the center of the magic circle and hovers a moment before taking form.

Lei: Welcome, Juushinkan Xelloss of the mazoku race.
Xelloss: (bows respectfully, keeping his eyes on Lei, but cautiously) I’m honored you know my name, Great Sage Lei Magnus-sama.
Lei: Hmm, this is unacceptable…
Xelloss: (barely opens his eyes to stare at his new master) Oh? ...
Lei: Don’t you have any PRIDE as priest!?
Xelloss: (furrows eyebrows menacingly)
Lei: Your hair… (quick pan to close-up of Xel’s hair) is only shoulder-length!
Xelloss: Wha? (slumps)
Lei: (poses haughtily) Truly, you have much to learn.
Xelloss: Y-Yes, I suppose.

CHAPTER 1 TITLE

Narration: (imposed over establishing shots) In this world, a massive scheme is being unfurled. Fear plagues the hearts of all races. Fear of each other, fear of daily attacks from the outside. Civil war and bloodshed threaten to tear the nations asunder.

This is the story of a brave hero of light, sent by the gods to deliver peace and---No, scratch that... This is actually a tale of a dysfunctional group of demons bent on world destruction. You can basically stop reading now.

CAS (Chibi Authors’ Silhouette): (stage in/stage out) Hey! Don’t turn away our readers before the story has even begun!

Narration: …Unless you like that sort of thing, of course. As I was saying...In this troubled age, a wise man sought to change the course of humanity by shaping it with his own hands.

CAS: You’re fired.

Narrator: *giku*

Cut to an earlier time: Lei transcribing a memoir in the then not-so-cluttered study. Establishing shots to follow.

Lei’s Narrative: There is an ominous feeling brewing inside me this last year, like there is a great clock wheel turning above my head and I am powerless to look upon its face. This bitter war claims a great many lives every day, belonging to both the innocent and sinful alike. My own family is all but gone and new noblemen perch themselves above the rubble everyday to claim power for themselves while promising hope of a resistance against the enemy.

The enemy…for months now we have seen only the enemy that wishes to be seen. Lesser demons, bands of trolls, lizard men…they have inexplicably formed large pacts among themselves to pick of our kind from around the edges. And yet…I feel something much larger stirring beneath the surface, like a deadly undertow beneath rocky waters.

Of course, every infant and child has been raised on the epic stories of “their” kind…two forces eternally locked into a struggle over the fate of existence. The Shinzoku under Flarelord Ceifeed fight for preservation, while the Mazoku, lead by Ruby-Eye Shabraningdo, fight for destruction.

10,000 years ago this battle began and came to a climax when Ceifeed, using the last of her powers, broke Shabraningdo into seven pieces. Thinking them sealed away forever and her power spent, Ceifeed fell before her own 4 subordinates and slipped into the flow of time.

Lei: Hmm, this is unacceptable…

Insert Lei pointing accusingly and with gusto?
Xelloss: Wha? (Quizzical look in that 'so..? what?' kind of way)
Lei: (poses haughtily) Truly, you have much to learn. Maybe lengthen this sentence? Something like, 'Truly, you have much to learn if you want to blend in seamlessly in this world!' Motherly!Lei could be sort of amusing. Lei: *licks a napkin and scrubs Xel's face clean*

HAHAHA

Xelloss: Y-Yes, I suppose. I think that this part is unecessary. It will almost be funnier/more appropriate to cut out right with Lei's proclimation and pose. I'm not sure Xelloss would even dignify that speech with an answer right away. XD

What's the chapter 1 Title going to be?!
Possible titles:
Demonology! Summoning of the Beast!
First Encounters
Chinese for Two: Ordering out!

Side note: I think that the narration might be a bit too.. disjointed. It's going to take a good deal of page space and won't add to the flow of the story at all.

I was actually thinking that it might be more appropriate, if you will, to begin each chapter with either an excerpt from the narration- thereby keeping it short and skippable for those who already know/ or we can make it in the form of actual journal entries done by Lei, which could have both some very good possibilities in terms of explainations, theories and foreshadowing (sometimes even to bring readers to the wrong conclusion based on Lei's theories) and could also provide some points for entertainment.
